Making Travel Magic: Iceland and Beyond

September 10, 2022

9:00am - 5:00pm - Rockville, MD

Do you have a photography trip on your bucket list? Do you want to make great images during your travels? Are you intimidated thinking about heading into the unfamiliar? Having traveled extensively, James recently drove over 2,600 miles in 20 days exploring Iceland. The weather and other factors on this bucket list trip required all his skills and a great deal of adaptability to make successes out of challenges. In this workshop, we will use his trip to Iceland as the basis to explore the ins and outs of travel photography. We will focus on what knowledge, skills, equipment, and preparations are necessary to make creative magic while exploring new places and chasing the light. We’ll cover the importance of understanding how your personal creative goals are critical to planning. Some of the key techniques covered will include lens selections and how and when to deploy polarizers, neutral density filters, and creative techniques, such as intentional camera movement. James will share what’s in his bag, thoughts on packing, and how best to travel with Lightroom. There will be time for group discussions on trickier topics that include the pros and cons of traveling with family, alone or in groups. If you have any questions, please contact your instructor.
